Trend forecaster WGSN saw it coming, placing yellow within its 2026 “gelato pastels” story, a palette of soft, dessert-like shades that somehow manages to feel both nostalgic and completely fresh.
Yellow is one of those colours with an instant emotional shortcut to sunshine, warmth and the first proper summer’s day. It evokes a bunch of daffodils on the kitchen table, childhood beach holidays and lemon sorbet. The nostalgia for sunshine and spring totally makes sense with the dawn of longer Autumnal days. After all, what is fashion if it’s not about daydream and whimsy?
Metamorphosis in Yellow
The forecasts suggested yellow was coming and the autumn/winter catwalks confirmed its arrival.
At Chanel, Matthieu Blazy’s autumn/winter 2026 collection told a caterpillar-to-butterfly story through texture, movement and transformation. Among the rich, tactile layers were sun-warmed yellows that felt like a crucial moment in the metamorphosis itself.
Over at Dior, there was a more subtle, pastel approach as Jonathan Anderson put a shade of sunkissed flax on its most charming footing with milky yellow heels topped with sculptural 3D flowers.
Then there was Loewe, where a variety of yellow moments slipped effortlessly into the house’s world of organic shapes, tactile textures and slightly surreal craftsmanship.
In my humble opinion, yellow is a tragically underrated fashion colour which evokes everything from the playfulness of Clueless, the glam of Elizabeth Taylor's fifth (if I’m counting correctly!) wedding dress to the bold mastery of Beyonce’s Hold Up music video. Yellow really is fitting for every season and looks fab with both black and brown footwear, which is always a versatility win.
