Beyond the Whiteout: The Best Courtside Wimbledon Fashion 2024

With Glastonbury 2024 still dominating the fashion headlines, Wimbledon’s most fabulous looks are slipping under the net, but not for long! While the dress code is a strict whiteout for players, spectators have a lot more choice — think summer dresses, strawberries and cream colour palettes and refined tailoring galore. 


Here at The Shirt Company, we can’t get enough of the preppy fashion serves from the courtside and below is a roundup of some of the best Wimbledon fashion inspiration so far along with a round up of what not to wear.

What Exactly is the Dress Code for Spectators at Wimbledon?


While Wimbledon is well-known for its draconian white out for athletes, things are a lot more relaxed for visitors to the world’s most iconic tennis tournament. 


Perhaps surprisingly for such a high profile event, there is no official dress code for spectators. The tournament has such a long pedigree that perhaps this is because the ‘done thing’ has permeated our collective consciousness so deeply that nobody needs to even be given pointers anymore. 


The only thing forbidden at Wimbledon is guerilla marketing and political showboating with tournament officials stating:


"Any objects or clothing bearing (as shall be determined at the AELTC's reasonable discretion) political statements, objectionable or offensive statements, or commercial identification intended for 'ambush marketing', including items or objects given away as part of a promotional or marketing campaign by third parties near to the Grounds."

As expected, things get a little more regimented in the coveted Royal Box with which has its own surprisingly simple protocol which reads:


“dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.”

The Best Courtside Wimbledon Fashion Inspiration So Far

 


The tournament may have only just begun, but the fashion serves from Wimbledon’s celebrity guests are already scoring some serious points. 


While guests are encouraged to scrub up, Pixie Lott shows that smart doesn’t need to mean stuffy in her absolutely adorable all white co-ord ensemble. With a vintage ‘40s swimsuit kind of vibe, this look is sporty in an unexpected way and has an understated presence.

While the idea of perching on Murray Mound in a crop top and a mini skirt is slightly harrowing for most mere-mortals, you can capture the breezy essence of this all white look with something like our cap-sleeved Rio dress. This more grown-up offering shares the simple tailoring, eye-catching waist and flirty side-slits for a real Wimbledon grand slam.

Other winners in the all white(ish) camp include Bohemian Rhapsody actor Lucy Bonyton who oozes ‘70s style with textured pattern details and some stella socks and sandals action and model Poppy Delevigne. 

 Delevigne’s breezy wide-legged trousers (pictured below) are super flattering for any body type and the perfect excuse to whip out your favourite white shirt and a nipped in blazer for the inevitable British summer chill.

Beyond the Wimbledon white out, Bridgerton’s iconic Golda Rosheuvel served some classic stripes in an irresistible red and white palette, evoking preppy rowing blazers and strawberries and cream.

Wimbledon, just wouldn’t be Wimbledoning without a smattering of florals and royals and Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece looked absolutely fabulous in this chic blue and white number (below) with a decidedly ‘90s silhouette.

 

 

 We can’t help but think that our very own cheerful Callie floral frock is the perfect substitute for a Wimbledon spectator look and its crease-free fabric means it was just made to lounge on a picnic blanket drinking champagne.
